For players

Creating an account

Players can join our community by pressing the "Join Bar Blitz" button in the top right corner. They can either sign up with their e-mail address or via Google Sign-In. After filling in the necessary details or authorizing Google to sign in on our website, players can browse and register for tournaments, see the leaderboards, view playing venues and their upcoming events, and view all the organizers currently active on the Bar Blitz platform.

Rating system

Bar Blitz uses the Glicko-2 rating system and concerns an internal rating. This means that the Bar Blitz rating does not interfere with linked Lichess and Chess.com accounts. The initial rating is 1500 and cannot be manipulated manually. For more information, please visit the explanation on the Glicko website.

Buying tokens

For tournaments that require an entry fee, tokens need to be purchased. To do this, users can click on the yellow "Add Tokens" button in the navigation bar. After selecting an amount of tokens, users can proceed to paying securely using a credit card, iDEAL, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, powered by Stripe.

Stadspas discount (residents of Amsterdam only)

If you are in possession of a Stadspas, a discount to play at Bar Blitz applies. Make sure to fill in your Stadspas number before paying for tokens for the discount to apply. Discounts do not apply retroactively.

KNSB and FIDE IDs

The website automatically connects Dutch chess federation (KNSB) profiles to Bar Blitz profiles, provided the first and last names match. Should a player have both a KNSB and FIDE profile, both are connected. Should a player only have a FIDE profile, the connection should be done manually.

FIDE IDs

If a player connects their FIDE ID and title if applicable, a website administrator first needs to verify it before official FIDE data can be linked.
