Creating an account

Players can sign up with their e-mail address or via Google Sign-In.


Buying tokens

For tournaments that require an entry fee, tokens need to be purchased. To do this, users can click on the yellow "Add Tokens" button in the navigation bar. After selecting an amount of tokens, users can proceed to paying securely using a credit card, iDEAL, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, powered by Stripe.

Tournament full? Waiting list!

Tournaments allowing a maximum number of players automatically have waiting list enable. Tokens will be charged for joining the waiting list but should no free spots open up, these tokens will be refunded automatically once the tournament starts. 

Token refund policy

If a player deregisters from a tournament 3 or more hours before the start time, tokens spent on that tournament will be refunded automatically. If a player deregisters any later, tokens will not be refunded. 


Joining a tournament

Joining is very easy etc.

  • Browse the homepage for upcoming tournaments in your city
  • Click on a tournament to see details (time control, venue, spots)
  • Click Register to sign up
  • Check in at the venue on tournament day

During a tournament

Once a tournament starts, the host runs the pairings. You can follow along on the tournament page:

  • See your current pairing and board assignment
  • View live standings after each round
  • Results are entered by the host or arbiter

After a tournament

Updating profile

After signing in, players can update their profile by clicking on their user name in the navigation bar > "Profile" > "Edit profile". The following settings are available:

  • Profile picture
  • First and last name 
  • E-mail address 
  • Connect Lichess account 
  • Connect Chess.com account 
  • Connect FIDE ID
  • FIDE title if applicable 
  • Birth date 
  • Sex
  • Federation if applicable
FIDE IDs

If a player connects their FIDE ID and title if applicable, a website administrator first needs to verify it before official FIDE data can be linked.


Profile features

A profile on the website is divided in three tabs: "Overview", "Statistics", and  "Trophies". The "Best finish" badge and rating are shown on every tab. The tabs and their features are as follows:

Profile overview

  • Blitz rating
  • Rapid rating 
  • Highlighted head-to-head records ("Rivalry")
  • Win & loss statistics
  • Player's upcoming tournaments
  • Player's past tournaments 

Statistics

  • Rating progress chart
  • Games played and win rate percentage
  • Tournaments played and average results 
  • Performance by color 
  • Rating trophies

Trophies

  • Earned trophies 
  • Available trophies left to earn 
  • Button to hide locked trophies 
  • Percentage of players who earned unique trophy
Rating system

Bar Blitz uses the Glicko-2 rating system and concerns an internal rating. This means that the Bar Blitz rating does not interfere with linked Lichess and Chess.com accounts and FIDE IDs.
